Starting Up

So this is the beginning of a whole new type of adventure. Well, not exactly the beginning...we've been working through this new world since May...or maybe even earlier than that...

The biggest clue would be when I was a kid (maybe 12?) and went for a walk out on the old farm land behind my house. I came up on some surveyor flags and roads that were in the early development stage. I knew that the nearby country club was planning to expand its residential area, so in my early land-conservationist mind, my plan hatched. I'd take the pink flags off of the posts and write in the dirt - that would show those no-good developers! Who were they to destroy my hiking lands, creep up on the ponds that I learned to ice-skate on, and scare the animals that I knew lived out there? I never knew such peace and calm as when I walked on a cool fall day with my dogs, wearing my brother's highschool letter jacket, crashing through the dried out long grasses and inspecting the cat tails that surrounded the pond that I learned to ice skate on...I didn't know how badly I wanted my own family to have that opportunity for utter happiness and peace until this past May.

In May, Ben was on the website for the Rocky Mountain Sled Dog Club (http://www.rmsdc.com/) and discovered our future - a home on 40 acres, on the Western Slope of Colorado, and backing up to National Forest land. Within 5 minutes of reading his e-mail, I was on the phone and...for all intents and purposes, we've flipped our lives around between Memorial Day and Labor Day - what a summer!

So, here we go - a new home, a new blog, and a new day - I'm a happy girl!
